Four Things to Seriously Consider before Pushchair Shopping
There are four different types of pushchairs.
Forward Facing
Forward-facing pushchairs are heavier than a stroller but most models are still pretty lightweight these days. They tend to have larger wheels that swivel and will fold up easily. Some great features of this type of pushchair are that they have a lot of padding to keep baby protected and swivel wheels for easy turning. Your baby is enclosed more in this type than a buggy because it’s more solid. Forward-facing pushchairs often come with convenient under-seat space for your shopping. As the name suggest, baby faces away from you in these models.
Two-in-One and Three-in-One
The two-in-one pushchair is a model with a lie-flat feature that converts it to a pram style. Three in ones can also be used like carrycots. They are suitable for newborns because they can become enclosed prams. Baby can face toward you when very little and face away when older. This style of pushchair is likely to be heavier than either the stroller or forward facing.
Three Wheelers/All Terrain
These pushchairs are often very stylishly designed and come with larger wheels so you can push them over rougher ground. All Terrain versions are particularly sturdy and built for more rugged conditions. Some three wheeler pushchairs can be used for newborns because they have seats that completely recline, but most are not suitable until 3 months.
Tandem Pushchairs
A Tandem pushchair has one seat behind the other. Children of different ages can sit comfortably in this type of buggy. The seats can be adjusted separately. Often, each seat will have four or five independent reclining positions. Some types have quite a wide wheel base, so you need to make sure it will fit into your car before deciding to purchase.
