Halloween Masks

The contemporary celebration of Halloween comes from the ancient Celtic festival of `Samhain.’ It is an annual celebration observed on October 31. It is a tapered version of All Hallows Eve. Halloween came to America through the Irish, who are believed to be modern descendents of the Celts. When the potato crop failed in Ireland, they migrated to America and brought their cultural practices with them.

Halloween was also observed as a harvest festival and New Year by the Celts. It also served as a vent for high morale before the onset of winter. In fact, in the 5th Century B.C. in Celtic Ireland summer officially ended on October 31 and the Samhain was observed on this occasion.

Masks are now used as part of Halloween celebrations. There are foam latex faces of ape men, aliens, demons, devils, mummies, reptiles, skulls, swamp witches, vampires, werewolves, zombies and other scary monsters.

The ancient Celts believed that all those who had died throughout the preceding year would come back in search of living bodies to possess for the next year. This was unacceptable for living people, so on the night of October 31 villagers would put out fires in their homes to make the spirits feel discarded. They would then dress up in all manner of macabre costumes and parade around the neighborhood in order to scare away spirits looking for live bodies to possess. There is also a record of Celts flaming up people thought to be haunted, as a stern warning to the spirits. However, modern historians dismiss these as fairy tales.

Mens Fashion Tips: Details that Define Quality in Mens Dress Shoes

Every man should know the mens dress shoes details before even considering buying their dress shoes. It is important to understand that these details define the quality in the shoes.

Instead of repeated spending on replacing damaged dress shoes, it pays to have a few quality ones that can last for years. The high quality mens dress shoes are eventually going to be more cost efficient than the cheap poor quality ones that are not made to last.

Mens dress shoes details are the foundation in building and shaping the dress shoes. It provides the comfort and firmness within that men are always sensitive about. Let us begin going through the mens dress shoes details:

Leather

Most mens dress shoes are made of leather. It is important to know what constitutes good leather since this material covers about 80 - 90% of the dress shoe.

Leather quality is graded from 1 to 5 with 1 being the highest quality. However, we can never find these grading on the dress shoes and neither would the sales personnel at the shoe department know.

Generally, base on laymen’s sight and touch, we focus on a smooth with consistent fine grain on the leather for mens dress shoes details. The leather should feel rich and supple.

A good example of good quality leather would be napa, a type of calfskin. Calfskin are fine leather from skin of young calf or even lambs. These hides have fine grains and shines with high polish.

All leather hides naturally have blemishes or scars on them. The high quality leather will have little scars on it and hence the higher price. The difference in durability for high and low quality leather is small in variation so it is not a determinant in the pricing for leather mens dress shoes.

Blemishes on leather dress shoes can be hidden by using sealant products. It smoothens the leather and cover-up the blemishes. Therefore, if the leather itself has less polished finishing (i.e. glassy finish) or as naked as it is, it represents lesser possible concealment of blemishes.

One of the most important mens dress shoes details lies on having high quality leather that has minimum blemishes and also barely touched-up with any artificial sealants.

Still it is difficult for any layman to assess the quality of leather unless you really know leather very well. Instead of trying to assess the leather itself, the focus should be more on the construction of the mens dress shoes.

Mens dress shoes details start from the inside since dress shoes are made from inside out. Blemishes and faulty workmanship are usually concealed on the outside. So focusing on the inside will allow us to find difficult areas of cover-ups.

An important point of focus is the insole. High quality mens dress shoes have insoles made from leather rather than layers of cardboards. These leather insoles are durable and prevents unnecessary foot odor because it allows the foot to breathe and absorb perspiration.

It can also be easily replaced when worn out as well as helps in shaping the bottom of the dress shoes which are not possible with cardboard insoles.

Lining

Leather is still the focus here. High quality leather should still be used to work on the lining. A good example of such leather would be calfskin.

Make sure that the lining is smooth at the folds around the seams and edges. Fine stitch is important along the lining because a fine binding and clean finishing defines the workmanship of the mens dress shoes details.

Stitching

Stitching is something that is not usually noticed among mens dress shoes details. We would recommend careful inspection of it.

Good quality stitching on mens dress shoes should be as inconspicuous as possible. It should be concealed from the top to the bottom of the dress shoes.

Remember to ensure that the inside of mens dress shoes do not have any exposed knots because these can cause a lot of discomfort for the wearer.

On the sole, a welt finishing involves stitching the leather in between the edge of the sole and the turned-in edge of the upper. These stitching should be hidden within the leather and should not have any loose ends revealed.

Soles

Soles are the foundation of mens dress shoes details. It is the easiest to wear out from walking.

A good investment for mens dress shoes would be having leather soles. One good point about leather soles is that it is definitely more formal and refined looking than rubber soles.

Leather soles are usually tanned to make it more lasting. The light tanned hue on the sole avoids possible cover-up of blemishes and scars.

It also avoids exposed stitching. The stitching along the soles should be well-hidden under the channels cut within the soles. These represents the quality required for mens dress shoes details.

The soles can be made into various layers, from single to three, and it all depends one’s personal choice, or to fit the formal dressing.

Make sure these soles are shaped as closely as possible to the foot to assure comfort for the wearer. Dress shoes soles should never be glued to the shoe. We should expect stitching around this area. It allows possible changing of the soles when worn out but not for those with glued soles.

Heels

Another important aspect about mens dress shoes details is the heel. Leather comes into play again. The heels are actually layered with leather and nailed together with brass pins.

This creates a tight reinforcement for the leather layers to create a cushion effect as well as sustainable support around the heels.

Make sure the heels are not oversized as this disrupts the balance for the mens dress shoes and can make walking with such heels very uncomfortable. For added durability, some heels are further attached with brass tacks to the sole.

Brighton Handbags - Information When Shopping for Brighton Handbags

The Brighton handbag was added to the Brighton line of stylish accessories in 1993. Each Brighton handbag goes through 20 steps during its creation. Upon completion of the process a leather patch, embossed with Brighton’s statement of quality and an individual serial number is added. As you can see they really do put their heart into every product they make. It is for this reason the company is known for its heart logo. Components for some of the handbags are manufactured internationally in countries such as France, Italy, Spain, China, Taiwan, Korea and Japan.

Brighton handbags are handcrafted in California. At no time are there more than ten being made at a time. There is an attention to detail followed as a rule by Brighton craftsmen that is an exception in this industry. For example there is no tag explaining that the ‘marks’ and ’scars’ are your “guarantee” of genuine leather-they painstakingly cut around the scars- to offer you, a flawless leather handbag. Each handbag is individually numbered, and is registered by its owner. Once registered, they are guaranteed. The leathers selected are the best from all over the world, and the hardware all originally created by Brighton artists and craftsmen, sterling silver finished, and protected from oxidation for everyday use.

The Brighton name has become to mean one-of-a-kind jewelry and fine Italian leather articles that are adorned with exquisite silver-plated ornamentation. Brighton’s heart logo fits the company philosophy that the difference in products is a true attention to detail. Most of the items in the Brighton collection have some unique detail, a message engraved on a bracelet or a Brighton handbag with a favorite photograph, that gives them special meaning to the owner. This then leaves a lasting memory to cherish for a lifetime. This has also led to many women having their own Brighton collection.

Plus Size Tips and Tricks

Black used to be the color of choice for plus size women, but no more. Voluptuous women don’t need to be afraid of bright colors and silky fabrics, as long as a few rules are followed.

* If you’re wearing a one-piece dress, go for a solid color and accessorize it with coordinating jewelry. If you want to add a second color, make it a jacket or a long blousy shirt. And mix textures. A wool dress and a tweedy jacket look terrific together.

* When selecting fabrics, choose soft and flowing, rather than clingy. Don’t make the mistake of wearing baggy clothes, thinking they will make you look thinner. Look for great choices that accentuate the positive!

* Stripes should usually be avoided, but if stripes are present, make sure they’re vertical. If you have a blouse that sports horizontal stripes, throw a coordinating wrap over your shoulders to add flair and minimize the stripes.

* Blazers or cardigan sweaters look best unbuttoned. It creates a visually-appealing vertical line. And adding shoulder pads to knit tops and sweaters will make you look much more polished.

* Focus on emphasizing your best features. If you’ve got terrific legs, show them off with linen shorts in a sherbet color, or choose a knee-length skirt that falls softly over your thighs. If you have a wonderful neck, choose some of the exciting new v-neck looks. Make sure that you choose accessories that draw attention to your face. Fun earrings and chunky necklaces will do the trick.

* De-emphasize the parts of your body that are in “transition”. All-in-ones (great shapers) or control-top pantyhose help smooth out any look. If your upper arms are not what you’d like them to be, go ahead and pick a sleeveless blouse, but cover yourself with a gauzy wrap or colorful jacket.

* If you are petite, smaller is better. Don’t choose clothing with large pockets or bold prints. Choose shoes with heels, the higher the better. Opt for a smaller bag in rich colors or designer earrings that nestle against your ear. When selecting any accessory, make sure it fits your size.

* Go with the flow. Choose looks that accentuate your length. A chunky belt will draw attention to your midsection, so if your outfit is belted, add a warm jacket that will bring the eye down from the waist. Also look for skirts that are longer, rather than wider, for a wonderful slimming look.

Millions of women get up every day and reach for clothes that do nothing for their plus size, voluptuous bodies. Change all that by seeking out retailers who specialize in catering to this growing market. Don’t be afraid to try a new color or style. Be you. Be big. Be beautiful.

Counterfeit fashion is a universally growing business, and it is getting increasingly difficult to differentiate designer handbags from fake ones. Industry insiders state that some counterfeit goods are actually produced by the same manufacturers who produce the original pieces; they simply produce extra batches of the same goods, change a few small details, and sell them on the black market for one-tenth of the retail price.

Authenticity is slowly losing its value as bogus imitations are being substituted for the genuine products. There is a huge market for fake items, owing to peer pressure. If people cannot afford the real thing, the easiest alternative is to head towards an online auction or a street corner to purchase a counterfeit designer handbag. Knockoff designer goods are readily available on the street in areas such as Los Angeles’ Santee Street and New York’s Canal Street. And the Internet is replete with online auctions offering “Inspired by” copies. The old method of spotting fakes was simple: shoddy hardware, cheap leather, and misspelled or tarnished logos were a dead giveaway. Now, the fakes are so good that only a trained eye can tell the difference.

Imitations are selling, and at a fraction of the cost of the originals. A chic teenager justified her penchant for purchasing knockoff designer handbags by nonchalantly stating, “I cannot afford $500 for a Louis Vuitton handbag, but that does not deter me from looking fashionable. My counterfeit Vuitton, priced at $75 gives the real thing a run for its money! Carrying a Vuitton or Dior handbag is a status symbol, as long as no one realizes that it is not the real thing.”

A Quick And Easy Way To Store Your Hat Collection

Ok, so you have a bunch of hats you don’t want to through away because that would just be far too painful. I have a very simple solution for you. There’s actually two versions of this and you can decide which is better for you, but they both work equally as well depending on what you’re going for. What I mean is there is the conservative “out of the way approach” and then there’s the decorative “look at my hat collection” approach. I have used both.

When I was a bit younger and didn’t have the luxury of too much space for all my hats I used the decorative approach. Which was great because I was and still am proud of my cool and eclectic hats. I had tons of baseball hats, a few bowler hats, a cowboy hat and some random funky hats that were just fun to look at. I had all these hats and a small room. I used them to my advantage.

The Decorative Approach: Its simple. Grab you hammer and some nails, and making sure you are keeping a level line, hammer one nail for each hat on the highest part of the wall all the way around the room. This puts your hats on full display and keeps them out of the way without damaging them by cramming them all in some dusty trunk or box.

The Conservative Approach: Also Simple. Grab your hammer and some nails and do the same thing but in your closet. You will probably have to use multiple closets unless you have a big walk in closet. If you’re married this is more then likely the method for you. It’s a rare find to marry some that feels as strongly about your mangy old hats as you do so until you convince your better half that you absolutely need a sports den - you will be forced to use the closet. No big deal. You’ll survive.

How to Look Slimmer

No matter what their size, most women want to look slimmer. By wearing clothes that are appropriate for your body shape you can look as much as 10 pounds slimmer. For those who are tired of dieting or just can’t seem to lose those last few pounds choosing clothes that are right for you and suit your body type will make you look slimmer - instantly. This is how it works; we are all built with our weight distributed in different places, which makes us unique. Manufacturers are not concerned about how clothes look on the average female but how it looks on models. They create fashion looks for the ideal body type. If you do not have the ideal shape and wear whatever is in style or looks great on someone else you may be hiding your assets and dressing to make yourself look bigger, out-of-proportion, or unattractive. The last thing we want to do is create a look that makes us appear larger or out-of-proportion; however, that’s what we do when we are not aware of the impact of line, design, proportion and color. Line and design is much more that wearing horizontal stripes, it is how the lines in the garment are formed, the shape and proportion of garments and how they are used to create the best look and how the lines of the body interact with the lines in clothes. Also, with color, it is not simply what color looks best on you (which is very important) but how color works with the lines of a garment to determine the final look. Here are some general guidelines that will create a slimming look but is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to dressing to your full potential and looking slimmer.

Tips to Look Slimmer:

1. Don’t wear frills or extra material that adds bulk. Don’t wear bulky sweaters, or sweatshirts.

2. Avoid shiny fabrics such as velour and satin.

3. To make your legs appear smaller wear dark hose. Don’t wear patterned tights.

4. Don’t wear oversized, shapeless clothing to hide bulges- they will make you appear larger instead.

5. Wear undergarments that have good support.

6. Dress in monochromatic colors without patterns. Darker colors will make you appear smaller - navy, dark green, gray or black.

7. Avoid horizontal stripes. Thin vertical lines will give a slimming look.

How to Tell an Authentic Handbag from a Fake

January 10th, 2009 January 10th, 2009

Comments Off

A handbag is an important part of a woman’s get up, as we all know. The right or wrong handbag can either make or break the perfect outfit. With disposable incomes on the rise, for a woman to own a top range handbag is not uncommon.

However, there are many women out there who are purchasing counterfeit versions both unwittingly and knowingly. Some of these purchasers simply don’t care. On the other hand, the fake bag may take some of you in.

So, it important to know how to tell apart an authentic bag from the knock out varieties. After all, you did want the genuine designer article, didn’t you?

BAG THE DIFFERENCE: A knock out or fake handbag will be a knockoff of the original- including fake logs. However, a look-alike handbag is a handbag that is inspired by the original.

Remember, that the fake handbags can also have authentic features, such as lampo or ykk zippers, authentic looking monogram placement, dust bags, authentic tags, just about everything. You may even get a receipt!

Just remember a simple point. If the handbag is a quality one the handbag will literally stand up on its own. This is because authentic bags use high quality leather, which is so good, that it is strong enough to stand up on its own weight. Besides, the handles wont ever collapse. Knockout handbags have a tendency to collapse under their own weight!!

TIPS AHOY: If you are still not clear on how to tell the real stuff from the knockout follow these tips:

Always buy from a real seller or designer outlets. Never buy on-line or at sales. This will ensure the authenticity of the handbag. The only guaranteed way to know your bag is authentic is to buy directly from designer stores or stores long established in selling designer ranges

Check the bag for digits: Most authentic handbags have either a control card or control number on the inside, as well as a certificate of authenticity. The number on the tag or control card should match the number printed on the lining. If you can, register your bag.

Quality matters, so feel the bag. Authentic bags will have soft leather or suede. Fakes tend to feel more like plastic. Weight makes a difference. Real leather is heavier.

Small details make the difference. The lining and stitching can help to differentiate a fake handbag from an authentic one. The knockout bags may have thread hanging or may be frayed in the corner. Authentic handbags are also often lined with fabric with the brand’s specific logo or monogram on it.

On a knockout handbag the stitching may not be completely straight, or may be a different color. Even the color of the outside of the bag may be a little off. Authentic handbags won’t have kinks in the straps. Zippers will match the skin color well and the designer run of bags may only truly come in a very small range of colors.

Very smooth and over shiny highly processed leather is often a sign of a fake. Poor uneven stitching is a sure dead give away of a fake.

Check the logo. Pay special attention to the pattern of printed monogram styles. There may be simple spelling mistakes, although the patterns may be the same Well-designed bags with logo fabrics never run the lettering into the seam lines.

The hardware is important. On knock-offs, the hardware tends to be oversized. Always check the placement of the hardware and the distressing on bags. The trademark nameplate may be huge on a knock-off. Many authentic designs also have details such as a logo or letter on the zippers and clasps.

You can also keep in mind that designers tend to be repetitive. Each style handbag will have an exactly same pattern that is followed. Nothing will vary. The patterns, the logo all will follow the same line, stitches. There is never anything haphazard about true designer bags. The same number of stitches is used and each stitch is the same size!

In authentic handbags zippers will glide smoothly, hardware is weighty; everything is exact and is of the highest quality. There will be no fly tabs to the zips.

Now, with these tips you can easily spot the fake handbags from the authentic ones, and be sure that what you are buying is the genuine item, that true blue authentic handbag you have always wanted!
